Dear Second Grader,
Welcome to second grade! My name is Mrs. Matteo and I am so excited to be your teacher this year! I hope you have been enjoying summer vacation and having lots of fun. I can’t wait to hear about all of your adventures! Just because summer is winding down doesn’t mean your fun has to end. I have an exciting and busy year planned for us. It will be filled with many opportunities for learning, laughing, and making new Whitehouse memories.
Second grade is such a special year. In Writer’s Workshop, you will continue to create small moment stories and write your own informational book. Do you like to read and write poetry? I LOVE poetry and can’t wait to share some of my favorite poems with you. We will also do LOTS of reading everyday!
In math, we will practice our facts and play many fun games. Get ready to learn how to count money, tell time, solve word problems and add and subtract large numbers.
Calling all scientists! This year we will conduct many experiments as we investigate and discover new information about rocks and soil, states of matter, and insects.
On the first day of school, please bring your very BEST smile! I am looking forward to meeting you in September! Enjoy the remainder of your summer vacation!
