WHS has joined Terracyle during Green Week.
TerraCycle is on a mission to eliminate the idea of waste. They do this by creating waste collection programs (each one is called a “Brigade”) for previously non-recyclable, or difficult-to-recycle, waste. The collected waste is then converted into new products, ranging from recycled park benches to upcycled backpacks.
TerraCycle® and Garnier® have partnered to create the Personal Care and Beauty Brigade®, a free recycling program for hair care, skin care, and cosmetic product packaging, as well as a fundraising opportunity for participants.
WHS will be collecting empty personal care and beauty products until the end of the school year. The collection will begin again in September. Items can be delivered outside the Computer Lab (room 133) .
Through the Terracycle program, WHS will earn points with each donation sent in. Student Voice will choose how these points will used. Terracycle allows particpants to use point to donate to charitable organizations. For example, student voice can use points and TerraCycle will send funds to National Wildlife Federation to protect 36 square feet of wildlife land critical to the safety of bison, grizzly bears, gray wolves and other wildlife. Through National Wildlife Federation’s Adopt-a-Wildlife-Acre program, you’ll help protect the wild animals that are at risk of death when they roam beyond the protected borders of Yellowstone National Park.
