Attention Grade 5 Parents - Scheduling information for RMS - Readington Middle School is already preparing for next school year. We are excited to bring on board our newest Vikings. While many of your child’s classes will be selected for them, there are some opportunities for student input into their schedule. Note that scheduling at the middle school level is increasingly more complicated so we ask that you speak with your student and do this together. We ask that this is done by each family by May 1, 2025.

New this year will be the ability to make these rankings directly in the Genesis Parent Portal.   https://parents.c2.genesisedu.net/readington/

Please follow the directions in this message on how to complete the Encore selection process. https://app.tango.us/app/workflow/Requesting-Encore-Courses-for-Next-Year-in-Genesis-4ec1251e18014479a5225ecf81a8dfc8

Students have the ability to choose from the following:
(6th grade only) World Language: 6th grade students have the option of choosing one of three languages: French, Spanish or Mandarin Chinese. We hope to be able to assign all students their top selection, but you must indicate an alternate second choice as some schedules may be limited. Please consider these choices carefully, as students will study the same language through 6th, 7th & 8th grade.

Performing Arts: Students may choose to continue to take Band or Orchestra and Chorus as two of their encore classes. Only students who are currently in Band or Orchestra programs will see these as choices. Any student can select Chorus as an encore. Band/Orchestra and Chorus runs as a full year elective course.

Encore classes: Students must rank, in order of preference, their encore courses. Students will be automatically scheduled for encore classes to fill their schedules based on these preferences as best as possible in addition to their mandatory full-year Physical Education class and half-year Health. 6th grade also has a mandatory half-year Computer Science course.  6thGradeEncores

Intervention and Gifted and Talented: Students may be eligible for Literacy and/or Math Intervention classes. These classes may take the place of an Encore or the interventionist may push into your child's ELA or Math class. This all depends on the needs of your child. If students are scheduled for two intervention classes as Encores, there is a chance that they will not be able to participate in Performing Arts. Students may also be eligible for Gifted and Talented, which runs as a full year Encore class.

At any point, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Charleston or the middle school, and we will be happy to help! Please complete this by May 1, 2025.  Go Vikings!
