Learning Spanish was downright frustrating at times, but I had a goal to become a bilingual person so I didn't give up. As an adult, I know how second language study enhances cognitive skills, fosters creativity, and offers an unmatched appreciation for different cultures. In order to pass this on to the children I teach, I find out what the particular age group I am working with enjoys and incorporate these things into my program. I use art, music, chants, and of course...for today's kids...computer activities and games to bring Spanish alive. Mr. Fred Rogers said it best, "Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning, but for children, play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood."
