Yearly AHERA Notification
School Year 2024-2025
To Parents, Guardians, or Staff Members
The Readington Township Board of Education, in accordance with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) 40 CFR Part 763 Subparts C, E, and M, is required to notify parents, guardians, and staff members annually of any pertinent changes in the district relating to asbestos-containing materials. The inspection reports are on file at each individual school and a complete district-wide set is available in the Board of Education Office. All asbestos-containing materials within the district are part of an ongoing Operations and Maintenance Program to keep the materials properly maintained.
During the 2023-2024 school year, there were no further changes to the condition of any of the asbestos-containing materials within the district as identified in the District's Asbestos Management Plan. All materials are being maintained as per the District’s Operations and Maintenance Plan, as determined by periodic surveillance completed during the fall of 2022 and in the spring of 2023.
During the 2024-2024 school year, the facilities department staff received a 2-hour asbestos awareness training session. The annual training follows AHERA requirements for facilities personnel who may come in contact with, or disturb, asbestos-containing materials.
During the summer of 2024, 2,650 sq ft of asbestos-containing floor tiles were removed from the Readington Middle School main office as part of a renovation project. The materials were removed as per AHERA regulations, and air sampling of the area was completed before the area was reopened to continue construction.
In the fall of 2024 and the spring of 2025, per AHERA regulations, there will be a required 6-month periodic surveillance reinspection of the identified asbestos-containing materials in the Asbestos Management Plan. The inspection reconfirms the location and condition of the asbestos-containing materials. The Asbestos Management and O&M plans were reviewed in the summer of 2024, and no updates were needed based on the inspection results.
