Meet Dr. Barbara Sargent, Superintendent of Schools

Dr. Barbara Sargent, an educational leader with more than 25 years of experience in New Jersey schools, began her tenure as Readington's Superintendent of Schools on July 1, 2011.  Barbara is a graduate of Rutgers University where she earned a B.A. in English and Sociology.  Her M.A. degree in Reading/Language Arts was earned at Rider University and her Ed.D. in Educational Administration is from Seton Hall University.

Barbara began her teaching career as a 7th grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher in the West Windsor-Plainsboro School District.  She worked as a supervisor in South Orange-Maplewood and Somerset Hills, and was an elementary school principal in Chester Township and Montgomery Township.  She served the Madison School District as Assistant Superintendent for six years before joining the Readington school community.

Barbara has presented workshops at a variety of educational conferences, including Phi Delta Kappa, NAESP, and Literacy for All. She has been published in Parents magazine, Educational Leadership, The Reading Teacher, and several state educational journals.  As a school leader, Barbara believes an educator should always keep one foot in the classroom. Over the years, she has taught and facilitated various workshops and classes to current and aspiring school leaders that focus on leadership, assessment, curriculum development, and literacy instruction.  She has taught graduate level courses in school leadership for Delaware Valley University, Drew University, and Seton Hall University.
