Three Bridges School has adopted a TIGER!
The tiger, largest of all cats, is one of the most threatened species on Earth. It is estimated that only 3,200 remain in the wild, most in isolated pockets spread across increasingly fragmented forests stretching from India to southeastern China and from the Russian Far East to Sumatra, Indonesia.
Habitat
Across the continent of Asia in a variety of environments, including forests, grasslands and swamps
Diet
Tigers prefer to eat ungulates, or hoofed animals (such as wild deer and wild pigs), but have been known to eat fish, birds, and even other predators such as leopards and bears.
Threats
Tigers are threatened by growing human populations, loss of habitat, illegal hunting (of both tigers and their prey species) and expanded trade in tiger parts used as traditional medicines.
Interesting Fact
Tigers are able to eat up to 80 pounds of meat at one time.
