What is Google Apps for Education?

Google Apps for Education (GAFE) is a suite of Web based (Cloud) applications for remote email and files storage. Thou- sands of school districts across the country are using GAFE to collaborate, communicate and educate from anywhere or any device!

Why is the district moving to Google?

The cost and upkeep of district-owned servers has become increasingly expensive in providing email and storage capability for our students and staff. Google provides these same services at no charge to school districts, which allows our district to utilize the latest technology and capability without incurring any significant costs. Content migration and major workflow changes are not required, nor are they initiatives at this point. We are simply moving your “stuff” from point A to point   B and showing you how to access it there. The additional capability and features that Google does offer are still available  at the discretion of each user, however.

What does this mean to me?

Every staff member and student now has a Google account set up for them. We are providing for a phased transition to Google for our staff and students. Your current email, calendar and files (P Drive) will be moving to Google by the end of the 2014 school year.

    What support will be provided?

We will offer training and support on accessing your email, calendar and files on Google once you are migrated over. Some teachers volunteered to be early Googlers, and they are functioning with the new applications. The rest of the dis- trict will be transitioned at the end of June. The afternoons of March 21, May 9, and June 19 will allow teachers time to

learn to work with the new systems - and we’ll provide Summer Teacher Academy time, as well.
