    WHS Drill Conducted Today

    Dear WHS Parents/Guardians:

Schools in New Jersey are required to conduct security drills once a month during the school year.  A new law, P.O. 2021, c.365, has gone into effect that requires school districts to notify students, staff, and parents when a school security drill is conducted during the school day.  Additionally, students and staff are notified at the conclusion of the drill that it was just a drill and that no danger exists.

This email is to notify you that Whitehouse School held a security drill at approximately 1:45pm today.  The routine security drill went smoothly.

    CALLING ALL MAKERS!

    Dear Families,

We are excited for our upcoming Makers Day on Thursday, March 14th.  Our thematic unit this year is based on the book, Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers.  In the movie version of the book, a character named Bert is a One-Man-Band.   Students will be challenged with the task of creating their own musical instrument out of recyclable materials.  Please help your child brainstorm a musical instrument they would like to create on this day.  Students will be provided with basic materials, but they are welcome to bring in their own recyclable materials.

Ideas for the body of the instrument:

    • Tissue box
    • Cereal box
    • Toilet paper rolls
    • Cups
    • Paper plates
    • Popsicle sticks

Ideas for the sound part of the instrument:

    • Rubber bands
    • Beans
    • Rice
    • Buttons
    • Plastic spoons

Please bring in supplies by March 14th.  Students will have one hour to design and create their musical instrument in school.  Then they will all play their instruments together as a class.  We are encouraging creativity!  It will be magical like Mary Poppins!

    Warmly,

    Dr. DeRosa and Mrs. Martinez
